We built Weeknights because we wanted to make it easier to find social clubs in Amsterdam. But we quickly realised that for that to work, we needed to make it easy for club owners to manage their clubs too. So I built a platform to do just that. Below is the comprehensive guide to getting your club set up.
I hope it's got everything you need, but if not I'm always open to feedback, drop me a message here or email hello@weeknights.nl.
How to get started
Head to weeknights.nl/create and sign up. If you've already got a Weeknights account, you can use the same login.
Once you're in, you'll create your club profile. This is what people see when they're browsing, so make it count:
- Club name - Keep it simple and memorable
- Description - What's your club about? What can people expect? Be specific
- Category - Running club, book club, supper club, whatever fits
- Cover image - A good photo makes a huge difference. Show your events, not just a logo
Try not to overthink it, you can always edit this later.
Once you submit your club, we'll review it within 24 hours. While you're waiting, you can still create events and get everything ready — they just won't be publicly visible until your club is approved. We'll email you when your club is live, and you'll also see a banner at the top letting you know your status.
How to get paid
If you're running paid events, you'll need to connect your Stripe account. I integrated Stripe Connect, which means payments go directly to you (minus a small platform fee).
In your club settings, click "Connect Stripe" and follow the prompts. Stripe will ask for some standard verification info. Once you're connected, you're ready to sell tickets.
For free events, you can skip this entirely.
Creating your first event
Where things get interesting. Click "Create Event" and fill in the details:
The basics
- Title - Make it clear what the event is
- Date and time - When's it happening?
- Location - Address for in-person, link for online
- Description - What will people actually do? Set expectations
Tickets and pricing
- Set your ticket price (or make it free)
- Set a capacity if you have limited spots
- Choose whether tickets need manual approval
Booking questions
This is one of my favourite features I built as it came directly from club owner feedback (shoutout Masala Story). You can add custom questions that attendees answer when booking, and you can make them mandatory. Things like:
- "Any dietary requirements or allergies?" (mandatory)
- "Have you been to one of our events before?"
- "What book did you read this month?"
If you're running food events, this is essential. You'll see their answers when reviewing requests and they're saved in your attendee list so you can reference them anytime.
Approval flow
For some clubs, you want to know who's attending before confirming their spot. Enable "Require approval" and here's what happens:
- Someone requests a ticket and answers your booking questions
- You get an email notification
- You review their request and see their answers
- You approve or decline
- If approved, they get an email to complete payment
- Once paid, they're confirmed
The key thing: you see exactly who's coming and their answers before any payment is captured. I built this because we needed it for our own supper clubs - perfect for private events or anywhere you want to curate the guest list.
Managing ticket requests
When someone requests a ticket, you'll get an email notification. Head to your event's "Requests" tab to see pending requests.
For each request, you can see:
- Who's requesting
- How many tickets
- Their answers to your booking questions
Then you approve or decline. If you approve, they get an email with a link to complete payment (for paid events) or a confirmation (for free events).
If you decline, you can optionally include a reason. Be kind about it.
Your attendee list
Every event has a full attendee list. You can see:
- Guest names and email addresses
- Their answers to your booking questions
- Payment status
- Check-in status
Need to email your guests or share info with a caterer? Export everything to CSV with one click. You've got full access to your data.
Guest check-in
In the platform, there's a check-in list built right in. Open your event's check-in page and you'll see all your confirmed guests, tap on someone to check them in or search them by name.
A few tips from running our own events
Start small. Your first event doesn't need to be perfect. Get 10 people in a room, see how it goes, iterate.
Set clear expectations. The more specific your event description, the more likely you'll attract people who actually want to be there.
Use the approval flow for intimate events. If you're hosting a supper club for 8 people, you probably want to know who's coming. The approval flow gives you that control.
Respond to requests quickly. People are excited when they request a ticket. Don't leave them hanging for days.
Take photos. Good event photos make your next event easier to fill.
That's it. If you're running a club in Amsterdam and want to make your life easier, give it a go. I'm always improving the platform based on what club owners actually need, so again, if something's missing or broken, please hit me up.
