About this event

Come for something you haven’t tried. Leave with something you’ll make again.

Join Masala Story at MOES Tuinen in Amstelveen for a hands-on introduction to spinach "besan chilla" (savoury pancakes): an Indian home-style dish made with "besan" (gram flour), fresh spinach, onion and warming spices. Quick and versatile, chilla is an excellent way to use spinach from your garden or local market.

You’ll work in a small group to prepare the batter, make tomato chutney, and cook your own chilla on an induction plate. No previous cooking experience is needed—I’ll demonstrate every step before you begin.

We’ll start with a playful Indian spice activity, explore ingredients and share stories about how savoury pancakes are prepared and eaten in Indian homes. You’ll also see how dishes like chilla are traditionally eaten by hand—and can try it yourself if you would like.

We’ll finish around a shared table, tasting our freshly cooked chilla with tomato chutney—a savoury tomato accompaniment. Each participant will also take home a small jar of chutney and the recipes, so you can recreate both dishes at home.
